15.09.2007 Hannover Maritim Airport Hotel/Die Globeflight-Party:
To bring his round the world flight to an official close, on September 15, 2007 Uwe Thomas Carstensen invited guests to come to the Maritim Airport Hotel in Hanover. Around 250 people, who had all in very different ways contributed to the success of the globeflight rallye, spent an entertaining evening and later joined in the fun at an enjoyable party that went on into the small hours.
While her husband was still flying around in his plane, Maria Carstensen had organised the welcome-home party, with a great eye for detail. The hotel's large hall had been decorated with the flags of all countries the pilots had flown to, or over, and the delicious buffet, by chef de cuisine Markus Kirchner, offered specialities from five continents.
At the beginning of the event, Uwe Thomas Carstensen welcomed his guests and thanked them for all their invaluable help. Mayor Bernd Strauch and Airport CEO Dr. Raoul Hille made some brief speeches. Then a film was shown about the trip to Phnom Penh and in particular the handing over of a cheque from the MUT foundation, founded by Uwe Thomas and Marie Carstensen, to the tune of 10,000 euros and two mopeds for a school supported by the DSW (German Foundation for World Population) and its partner organisation, the Indra Devi Association (IDA-Cambodia Women Health). After dinner, the pilot talked about all their experiences, the people they'd met and impressions gained from the trip. Later on the guests were treated to an amusing, historical and literary observation of flying, through the eyes of fairytale teller Ute-Renate Noltemeyer.
The pop music and dance band Joy's from the Husum area provided the musical backdrop and in their repertoire, which really encouraged everyone to dance, they included a lot of songs about flying and roses. The two pilots Uwe Thomas Carstensen and Hans Christian Albertsen showed that they didn't just enjoy flying, but liked to get out onto the dance floor too.
