03.12.2015 Bastia (Corsica):
Today Martin had planned something completely different for us and reserved rooms in a smaller hotel. Nevertheless, it was clean, the accommodation was functional and everything very tidy. Apparently he hadn’t been able to get anything else. The hotel was near to the centre so we didn’t have far to walk. At 3 p.m. no restaurants were open however, so we ended up in a French bakery. They had baguettes and pizza which Martin was quite happy with. At 6.30 p.m. we set off again on our quest for a restaurant. When asked, the restaurant owner next to the hotel said: “I don’t open until 7, so for another 10 minutes“. Another promising answer! We strolled along the main street and found a brasserie which was quite big with seating for about 80. It was a family-run business with a team of women.

The granddaughter was doing her homework and playing with her mobile. The mother asked us what we wanted to order. Her sister was standing behind the counter and the two women’s mother (or the grandma) was sitting at a table and watching television. But the atmosphere was friendly so we decided to stay. We had champagne, a platter of meat, crepes, red wine and anything else that you could have wished for. Corsica really is a nice place to stop.
