The crew

Pilot Uwe Thomas Carstensen (60) and his co-pilot are the 138th team to fly round the earth in a small single-engine aircraft since 1924 - the first crew from Hannover since Elly Beinhorn flew round the world in 1931/32.

The pilot explains why: “Well, I’m fascinated by flying and particularly with the idea that I can fly round the world in a small aircraft as a private person. It shows that the world has shrunk thanks to technical and economic progress. So as far as I’m concerned, globalisation means understanding among nations all the more.
